Legal Translation Versus Legal Interpretation. A Legal-Theoretical Perspective

Abstract In this article we investigate the relationship between legal translation and interpretation. The common wisdom is that these activities are closely related, but nature of remains disputable. We adopt perspective theory—as opposed to studies—which seems be underrepresented in literature subject. start with distinguishing two notions interpretation: wide sense (interpretation as understanding) narrow problem solving). argue interpretation changes significantly depending on notion assumed. often assumed by scholars it renders a necessary prerequisite for translation. Jurists, other hand, usually assume which distinct some shared features. then focus four issues sense: types interpretive problems, creation methods interpretation, resolution problems. conclude detailed comparison context those issues.
